Milkwood

Milky Pine or Milkwood, Alstonia spp. Milkwoods are generally tall trees, and have milky latex when the bark on the trunk is cut into; thus the common names. This latex is poisonous and may cause blindness (Brock 1997). Of course, it is not a pine, but often grows straight and tall like one. They have small white flowers and then long thin seed pods with fluffy seeds. They are found in the forests and woodlands of the tropics of Australia, with some species reaching into New Guinea and South-east Asia (Cooper and Cooper 1994).
