Brown Kurrajong Brown Kurrajong, Commersonia batramia This is one of the most common and obvious trees growing along the side of the Cape Tribulation road (pictured above). It flowers in summer (pictured below, left), looking like creamy coloured snow on the branches. It then develops a small brown spiky fruit (pictured below, right). This tree's habit on the side of the road and its flowering makes it look very similar to the unrelated Alphitonia spp. However, this latter plant has much paler undersides to the leaf, and small and smooth (not hairy) fruits. |
