Dwarf Harpullia: Harpullia frutescens As suggested by the specific epithet (which apparently means 'becoming shrubby' in Latin, Nicholson and Nicholson 1994), this is a small shrub. It's leaves are compound and they, and the leaflets, are alternate. The plant's most distinctive feature is the flattened out nature of the stem (winged rachis), and the leaves have long drip tips. This shrub produces small white and pink flowers followed by orange or red fruit that split open to reveal two seeds in two compartments. The black seeds are mostly covered in orange aril. It is usually found in the Understorey of relatively undisturbed tropical rainforest in the wet tropics of north-eastern Queensland.
